IT'S OKAY TO BE SELFISH
“𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐’𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮”.
I was blessed to have this thought 𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐞 from when I was just a kid.
Watching my mom do 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 to keep her family happy and healthy.
So naturally, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐝, I went “𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯” into provide for my own family.
But in the process of doing that, 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 of taking care of me.
𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵.
𝘌𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘱.
𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 “𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯”.
And at 23 years old, I found myself at 𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐊 𝐁𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐎𝐌 with my mental and physical health.
It affected 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 at work.
It 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 my relationships.
But most of all, it 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 of who I knew I could be as partner and a dad.
Emotionally and psychologically, I 𝘴𝘱𝘶𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘴 trying to make sense of who I was.
𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐓.
Until, I decided that nothing around me was going to change unless 𝐈 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 to change.
And the change started from 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦, 𝘰𝘶𝘵.
It started with a goal.
The goal of becoming an example of who I wanted 𝐦𝐲 𝟐 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐧 to become...a human being that is 𝐀𝗪𝐀𝐑𝐄 and 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 of embracing 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞…
𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩, Physical 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦.
To truly care for others, 𝐈𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐑𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 that you put yourself at the top of the list.
Sure, it is noble to 𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥 of the ones that rely on you.
But, it is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅𝐈𝐒𝐇 to put YOU first.
It is 𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋 that you...
Recognize that your habit of saying, “𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸” is just 𝐋𝐈𝐏 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄.
Understand that, “𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥” is just one more excuse to 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐂𝐊.
Acknowledge that 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝗪𝐀𝐘 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐊 dictates the action you take towards your health.
So make the decision 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 for a better you, so that you can fight for 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒 𝗪𝐇𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑 in your world.
What is going to be the cost of you putting your health on the 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐑, again and again?
