NEW YEAR, OLD ME?

 Yeah, it’s that time of the year again where some people start deciding…⁣
 ⁣
“HOW am I going to get in better shape?”⁣
or⁣
“WHAT am I going to do to get in better shape?”⁣
 ⁣
But listen up folks…⁣
 ⁣
WHO you want to become will dictate the HOW and the WHAT to do.⁣
 ⁣
I started a personal journey earlier this year to become the most effective and competent coach that I could be. I wanted to evolve and grow as a leader and be a powerful mentor to the kids in our community. I took the leap and made a HUGE financial investment by enrolling in an intensive energy leadership coaching program through IPEC.⁣
 ⁣
Then COVID-19 hit NYC like a double-sided smack in the face in early March. Lockdown started and NYC, became the epicenter of the United States overnight.⁣
 ⁣
In fact, our very own community, Rockaway Beach, became the epicenter OF THE epicenter… On March 16th we closed our gym doors, as it turned out, for the last time ever. We scrambled and struggled to keep our gym alive by teaching a few outdoor classes and going virtual.⁣
 ⁣
But with all the changes happening so quickly, I slowly started to lose sight of the mission I started back in January.⁣
 ⁣
I let myself get side-tracked and spent the last few months procrastinating and making excuses.⁣
 ⁣
It happens to ALL of us, especially when it comes to taking care of our health and well-being.⁣
 ⁣
At the beginning of every new year we tend to say, “ OK, this is going to be MY year…or New Year, NEW ME!”⁣
 ⁣
We promise to make changes but lose momentum due to circumstances, procrastination and/or excuses.⁣
 ⁣
We forget to make ourselves a priority, neglecting the development of our mind and body, because we think we don’t have the time, energy, or we just feel too guilty caring about our own needs.⁣
 ⁣
Then, when that new year rolls around and we are reminded we are SUPPOSED to be getting back in shape, we spend too much time on the “how” and the “what”.⁣
 ⁣
 "What shiny new piece of equipment will get me there?"⁣
 "Maybe I should try Intermittent Fasting, I’ve heard that works… "⁣
 "I heard Coach So and So’s program will get me shredded in 30 days or less."⁣
 ⁣
When, more importantly, we want to ask ourselves, “Who am I forging myself into?”⁣
 ⁣
Remember….WHO you want to become will dictate the HOW and the WHAT to do.⁣
 ⁣
As I gear up today to serve after a long weekend off with my family, my answer to “who am I forging myself into?”…⁣
 ⁣
I am becoming the most EFFECTIVE and AFFECTIVE coach within my capacity.⁣
 ⁣
I challenge you to ask yourself, “who do I envision becoming as I look to develop GRIT?”⁣
